WHAT IS KAAPI?

It is traditional south Indian coffee. To us, Kaapi is an emotion. At least that is how we feel. It is traditionally prepared by mixing a decoction of coffee with steamed milk and sugar.

INDIA MAKES COFFEE / KAAPI?

For centuries India has produced and consumed coffee. As far as we can remember, our families have had a morning ritual of waking up to a cup of kaapi and it is this legacy we aim to bring to you.

CAN I BREW A CUP OF KAAPI WITH MY COFFEE MAKER / FRENCH PRESS?

Yes indeed. Although Madras Kaapi shines its brightest in a Latte format, the versatility of Madras Kaapi is non discriminatory between different coffee preparation methods. We highly recommend the Decoction filter which is the traditional way of making kaapi.

WHERE DOES YOUR COFFEE COME FROM?

Our coffee beans are grown in the Hills of south India. We strive to pick the finest quality beans that is grown, farmed and harvested with utmost care by our growers in South India. We then marry this produce with French Canadian roasting craftsmanship to accentuate the flavor and deliver the best coffee.

WHAT ABOUT FAIRTRADE OR ORGANIC?

Since we source our beans from the farmers who produce exceptional coffee, they make a better return dealing directly with roasters and importers than via Fairtrade channels.

The farms we source our coffee from operate in a small scale, and the expense of Organic certification just isn’t a possibility for them. Most small coffee farms do farm organically out of necessity, without the funds to certify themselves.

So, buying Fairtrade and organic is not a prerequisite for us, sourcing the best coffee we can get our hands on is.

HOW LONG DO THE BEANS STAY FRESH?

For fresh beans we recommend using it within a month for optimum taste and flavor. With ground coffee, you begin to lose quality straight away, so please be a sweetheart and chug it soon, it would not do justice to store it longer than 2 to 3 weeks after receiving it. 

ANY STORING TIPS FOR MY COFFEE?

Tight, Cool, Dark. We recommend you store your coffee either in the bag it comes in or in an airtight container in a cool dark place. Contrary to popular belief storing in the fridge or freezer is not advisable.

WHEN DO YOU SHIP?

After we receive the order, we set a 48 hour time commitment to get the product out to you. We roast our coffee on a weekly basis to ensure the freshness of the product.

HOW DO I PAY?

We take card payments - Visa, Mastercard and American Express. If you are a cash person, fret not, we are working on bringing Madras Kaapi to shelves, so stay tuned. Or if you happen to be in Montreal, drop us a note and we can arrange something.

CAN I CHANGE MY ORDER DETAILS?

Yep. The sooner the better, email us at orders@madraskaapi.com. However, once we have shipped the product it is out of our hands.

DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

Not yet, at the moment we ship to Canada and USA.
